French salad with apples

    Ingredients

    As you known, the roots of salads lie very deep. The Italian word “salato” or “salata” means “salty”. Due to some historic reasons, you can use almost any ingredients using different proportions and combinations. The only rule is that they must go together. This original French salad recipe has nothing to do with France, as it was invented in the USSR. It may sound strange but this is a nice combination of pickled onions, apples, eggs and cheese. French salad is delicious and easy-to-make, it will be great for a festive table. In this case we recommend serving it in portions or in a glass bowl, so that all the layers can be seen.

    Step 1

    Prepare the ingredients. Boil the eggs in a slightly salted water for 5 mins, cool. Wash the apples (preferably sweet and sour sorts). Peel the onions.

    Cut the onion in half and slice. Put into the bowl, add sugar, salt and vinegar, combine. Add 150 ml boiling water and leave for 5 mins. After that, throw the onions into the colander and drain.

    Roughly grate the cheese.

    Peel the eggs and slice lengthwise.

    Peel the apples, remove the core. Cut into small chunks. Sprinkle them with some lemon juice to prevent from rusting.

    Take a deep salad bowl or a flat serving dish and a cooking ring and layer the salad: first onions, then eggs, apples and cheese. Spread some mayonnaise after each layer.

    If possible, refrigerate for 30 mins before serving. French salad is done!
